FRIDAY - “SCHOLARSHIP, ACCURACY & FINDING TRUTHS”

NABS’ Day at the Library of Congress & The National Archives! (Adults)

For more than three decades NABS has been driven to ‘Spread The Word” and be responsible
 bearers of our stories! Our history, culture and ancestors require us to be as thorough and
 precise as possible as we uplift our people, country and the world through our craft. This year’s
 festival affords us an opportunity to explore and learn from places where resources are stored
that will help us be the best stewards of the Blackstorytelling tradition.

Our first stop on the day’s journey will be a visit to the Library of Congress. This visit will prove to
be an exciting one! The Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center staff will provide enlightenment
 on what can be found in the following collections and how to explore and/or access
the materials for every creation!

 * Overview of American Folklife Center collections including music archives
 * Zora Neale Hurston collections
 * Ex-slave narratives (recorded)
 * Alan Lomax collection
 * International Storytelling collection
 * Civil Rights History project and National Visionary Leadership Project collections
 * Prints and Photographs Division
 * Manuscript Division, Ex-slave narratives (written)
 * African Division

Next on our journey of “SCHOLARSHIP, ACCURACY & FINDING TRUTHS”  is a visit to the
National Archives. There the staff will continue the quest for knowledge as the staff will lead one
 half of us through a tour of the Archives and exhibits as the other half of NABS will be enlightened
 about the historical archives: their contents, use, accessibility, and utilization for research
preparation. The National Archives will prove invaluable to our need to find accurate and precise
information as it pertains to:

* Family History Trees                                          * Photographs
 * NAACP                                                             * Family Lineages
 * Genealogy                                                        * Community Records
 * Military Muster Rolls (Enlisted                          * Official Records
          Men/Women for every war!)

NABS keeps rolling by uplifting our youngest members! Also on Friday, the Youth enjoy…

NABS’ DAY AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY, THE MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART &
THE NATIONAL MALL!!

On Friday, the Youth will visit Howard University for:
* Howard University Campus Tour
 * Conversation and classroom visit with a Professor
* Conversation with an Elder - Howard University Graduate Mama Linda Goss

And then….  * Activities at Museum of African Art

                      * Visit National Mall Museum & Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial (time permitting)

What a great NABS day for all!
