CALL FOR TELLERS & WORKSHOP PRESENTERS

Submissions for Featured Tellers & Workshop Presenters are being accepted for the 35th Annual National Black Storytelling Festival & Conference being presented November 8-12, 2017 in Wichita, KS! Below you will find the specifics about what we’re looking for and the guidelines on how to submit for Featured Teller and Workshop Presenter.  You must be a current member of NABS to apply for Featured Teller OR Workshop Presenter.

Featured Tellers

 Featured Tellers will be selected for one or more storytelling concerts and represents the finest in the Blackstorytelling world! We invite you to help us continue our tradition!

Priority will be given to:

            *          Featured Teller applicants who have NOT been featured at NABS

            *          Youth Tellers

           *          Tellers of Traditional African and African American Folktales

            *          Visual representation of your work (URL or video)

            *          Unique and energetic tellers!

Your Submission Checklist…

_____ Complete Application including the Cover Sheet

_____ Evidence of Your work; URL Link (preferred) OR audio OR digital video sample, cued (max. 10 minutes)  

_____ Photograph (No copies of photos. High Resolution: Color preferably OR Black & White Glossy)

_____ Promotional Package(if available)

_____ At least three (3) references  (one must be a storyteller)

_____ Your Bibliography (published books, articles, recordings, etc.)

_____ Biography for publication if selected at 50-words (or less)

* ALL Featured Teller applications must be Postmarked and/or received before

            April 9, 2017. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!  “We are serious about this.”

  HELPFUL HINTS:

* Remember to submit only ONE example of the best representation of your work.

* Application and submission materials must be submitted in ONE complete package  and/or email. (Multiple emails will not be accepted.)

* Send only what is required. No need to send anything other than on the submission list.

 Workshop Presenters

 We are looking for experienced professionals who currently conduct specialized workshops. Successful workshop submissions will demonstrate your ability to present dynamic and relevant presentations. 

   We are looking for (but not limited to) workshops that discuss:

 *          Storytelling ethics, consent and acknowledgement

 *          Cultural themes and characters in African and/or African American stories

 *         The business or commercial component of professional storytelling

 *          Workshops specially designed for youth that blend STEM and storytelling

 *          Storytelling 101 (Choosing the right story, technique, voice, music, movement and stage presence)

   Your Workshop Presenter Submission Checklist

 _____ Complete Application including the Cover Sheet completely filled out

 _____ One page workshop description with title, length, objectives, intended audience (general, youth) and technical needs

 _____ Photograph (High Resolution: Color preferred OR Black & White Glossy)

 _____ Promotional Package (if available)

 _____ At least three (3) references  (one must be from a storyteller)

 _____ Your Bibliography (published books, articles, recordings, etc.)

 _____ Biography for publication if selected at 75-words (or less)

 * ALL Workshop Presenter applications must be Postmarked and/or received before

             April 19, 2017. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!
